Comenz\u00f3 como un peque\u00f1o pueblo a finales de 1800 que sirvi\u00f3 como una parada de c\u00edtricos para el Ferrocarril del Pac\u00edfico Sur. Paralelo a El Camino Real (ahora conocido como Telegraph Road), la l\u00ednea ferroviaria fue construida de este a oeste - Los \u00c1ngeles a Ventura. La ciudad de Piru fue trazada en 1888 por David C. Cook, un editor de libros religiosos de Illinois que se hab\u00eda trasladado al oeste por su salud.
