2026. Please watch this space for more information when it&#8217;s available.<\/i><\/b><\/p><h5 role=\"heading\" data-uw-rm-heading=\"level\">What is Public Charge?<\/h5><p>Public charge is a test used by immigration officials to decide whether a noncitizen is likely to be dependent on the government for support. It is one of several factors immigration officials look at when deciding whether to approve a <strong>visa<\/strong> to enter the U.S. or a <strong>green card<\/strong> to become a legal permanent resident.<\/p><p>Many benefits don\u2019t count toward the public charge test. We have included a few of the most common ones below.\u00a0<\/p><h5 role=\"heading\" data-uw-rm-heading=\"level\">Which Benefits Do Not Count?<\/h5><p>Generally, supportive services <strong><u>do not <\/u><\/strong>count toward a public charge determination, This includes most Medi-Cal and CalFresh.
