And there is tremendous need, given:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"arrow-list\">\n<li>In 2020, the U.S. had one death by suicide every 11 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>For people ages 10\u201334, suicide is a leading cause of death.<\/li>\n<li>From April 2020 through April 2021, over 100,000 people died from drug overdoses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Behind each of these data points, there are people, families and communities who have been impacted. Yet, in the face of these urgent realities, there is hope.<\/p>\n<p><strong>On July 16, 2022, Ventura County will join the rest of the United States in beginning to use the 988 dialing code<\/strong>. 988 will be the new three-digit number for call (multiple languages), text or chat (English only) that connects people to the existing National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, where compassionate, accessible care and support are available for anyone experiencing mental health\u2013related distress. The chat feature will be\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/988lifeline.org\/chat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">available through the Lifeline\u2019s website.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>People can call 988 if they are having thoughts of suicide, mental health or substance use crises, or any other kind of emotional distress.
