What have we heard from the Community?

The County has received a significant amount of input from the community since the start of the redistricting process. Much of that input has focused on “Communities of Interest” and the County continues to value such input. In addition, the community has offered other comments and recommendations about the redrawing of supervisorial district boundaries and we expect to receive them throughout the remainder of the redistricting process. A summary of community comments and maps received will
be updated regularly throughout the process, up to and including the final public hearing to adopt the new supervisorial district boundaries.

What is a Community of Interest?

A Community of Interest is a contiguous population that shares common social and economic interests that should be included within a single district for purposes of its effective and fair representation. Communities of interest shall not include relationships with political parties, incumbents, or political candidates.

What criteria will help the Board of Supervisors understand the importance of your community in the redistricting process?

When documenting your community it is important to address the following questions to assist the Board of Supervisors in the redistricting process:

  1. What are the common interests in your community? Describe why they are important to you.
  2. Where is your community? What are the cross streets and/or landmarks in your neighborhood? (For example, intersections, roads, rivers, etc.)
  3. Why is it important for your community to be included in the County of Ventura Board of Supervisors redistricting process? Please describe how the issues that the Board of Supervisors considers have an impact on your community.

The public can submit any testimony, but it is important to remember that your input can be best used if it addresses all of these questions.

What You Can Do to Further Participate in the Redistricting Process?
